How to Book a Spanish Luxury Train: A Step-by-Step Guide
Booking a luxury train in Spain is not complicated — but it is unforgiving of delay, and there are five or six decisions worth getting right the first time. Step 1: Choose your train
Everything else follows from this. In brief: the Al Ándalus for the classic south — Seville, Córdoba, Jerez, Toledo and five UNESCO cities in Belle Époque carriages; the El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo for Spain's most exclusive journey — 28 guests, eight days across Green Spain; and the Costa Verde Express for the original Spanish train cruise, six days on the north coast at the most accessible fare. Step 2: Pick your direction — and your dates
Each train runs weekly, alternating direction: Seville to Madrid one week, Madrid to Seville the next; San Sebastián or Bilbao toward Santiago de Compostela, then back. The itinerary content is the same either way, so choose by logistics. Flying into Madrid? Start there and finish in Seville. Want to end your trip at the shrine of Santiago and fly home from its airport? Ride westbound. Step 3: Choose your cabin category
Two of the trains keep this simple. The Gran Lujo has a single category: 14 Deluxe Suites of about 12 square meters — the largest in Spain — each with hydro-sauna and steam bath. The Costa Verde Express likewise offers one class, 24 Gran Clase Suites. The Al Ándalus gives you a real choice: 20 Suite Deluxe cabins of roughly 8.3 square meters with a double bed, and 12 Gran Clase cabins of about 6.6 square meters with twin beds. Couples generally prefer the Suite Deluxe for the bed and the extra floor; the Gran Clase suits friends traveling together and budget-minded couples who plan to live in the lounge cars anyway. Step 4: Book early — here is the math
Our standing advice is 6 to 12 months ahead, and mid-2026 is a case study in why. The 2026 season is nearly sold out: September–October Al Ándalus departures are close to gone and only a few fall Costa Verde Express dates remain. Meanwhile the 2027 season is open — Al Ándalus March 29 through October, Costa Verde Express May through October — and booking it now earns 10% early-booking savings with the code 2027SPAIN. That brings the Costa Verde Express from €5,300-level 2027 pricing down to €4,770 per person; 2027 base fares are €7,700 (Gran Clase) and €9,200 (Suite Deluxe) on the Al Ándalus, and €11,100 on the Gran Lujo. Booking early is not just about availability — with limited single cabins and only one or two dozen suites per train, it is about getting the exact suite, week and direction you want, at the best price the season will ever offer.
Step 5: Deposit now, balance later
Confirming costs 15% of the fare, with the balance due 35 days before departure. For a couple on the 2027 Costa Verde Express with the discount, that is roughly €1,430 total to lock in a suite more than a year out. Between deposit and balance, nothing is required of you; we send documents, arrange pre- and post-train hotels if you wish, and keep you posted on anything that matters. Step 6: Book through the official authorized source

How much does it cost to hold a booking?
15% of the total fare, paid at confirmation. On a €5,000 Costa Verde Express fare that is €750 per person; the remaining 85% is not due until 35 days before departure.
Is it too late to book for 2026?
Not quite, but nearly — the 2026 season is close to sold out, with only scattered dates left, mostly outside the peak fall weeks. Call us for the live picture; for real choice of train, week and suite, 2027 is where we are booking most clients now, with the 10% 2027SPAIN savings as consolation for the wait.
Can you arrange flights and hotels around the train?
