How many luxury trains run in Spain?
Three multi-day luxury sleeper trains operate in Spain, all run by Renfe's Trenes Turísticos de Lujo: El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo and the Costa Verde Express across the green north coast, and the Al Ándalus through the south. Which Spanish luxury train is the best?
It depends on what you want. The Gran Lujo is the most exclusive (28 guests, the largest suites in Spain); the Al Ándalus is the most storied, with genuine 1920s Belle Époque carriages and five UNESCO cities; the Costa Verde Express is the best value and the original 1983 train cruise. How much does a luxury train in Spain cost?
From about €5,000 per person (Costa Verde Express, double occupancy, all-inclusive) to €9,900+ on El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo, with the Al Ándalus from €7,900. Fares include all meals with wines, every excursion and entrance fee, entertainment and a dedicated crew.
How far in advance should I book?
Six to twelve months. These trains carry 28–64 guests and sell out routinely — most 2026 departures are already gone. 2027 is open now, with 10% early-booking savings using code 2027SPAIN.
Are the trains all-inclusive?
Yes. All meals (a mix of onboard dining and acclaimed restaurants along the route) with wines and drinks, every guided excursion and monument entrance, live entertainment, a luxury support coach and luggage handling are included on all three trains.
Do the trains travel at night?
No — all three park at a station every night. You sleep still, and evenings are free to explore the towns where the train rests.
What deposit is required, and when is the balance due?
A 15% deposit confirms your suite; the balance is due 35 days before departure. Our specialists confirm live availability before any payment is taken.
Can I combine two trains, or add days in Spain?
Yes — many guests pair a northern and a southern journey, or add nights in Madrid, Seville, San Sebastián or Santiago before and after. We arrange hotels, transfers and high-speed AVE connections as part of the same booking.
Is there a dress code on board?
Daytime is smart-casual; evenings call for elegant-casual (a jacket for the captain's dinner is welcome but rarely required). Comfortable walking shoes matter more than anything formal.
Are the trains suitable for travelers with limited mobility?
The heritage carriages have corridors and cabin doors narrower than a modern hotel, and excursions involve walking on old-town cobbles. They are manageable for most active travelers; call us to talk honestly through your situation before booking.
